Learning the hard way

Recently I made a floral arrangement for the church with some roadside blooms. The plants included were Ragweed, Queen Anne's Lace, Clover, Chicory, Cat Tails and some yellow flowering plant. This yellow flowering looking plant looked so cool. It would be great filler! Little did I know this little flowering plant was Wild Parsnip!! Yikes!

Shortly after I realized there was a burn on my left hand. I kept trying to figure out where in the heck it came from because I don't remember burning myself. Then my father tells me that yellow plant is Wild Parsnip. He had been clearing out a thicket to be burned by it last year. Wild Parsnip creates a chemical burn, which is quite nasty. Dad gave me some good instructions to get it healed. I've been wearing a band-aid on it when in the sun. Every now and then Calamine lotion and Hydrocortisone is applied to the spot. Thus far it is healing up pretty well.

It has not hindered my spinning or knitting. Thank God for that one. I'd probably go insane without them. Today I hope to finish the third bobbin and start plying. We may be going to my sisters to swim in her pool. It seems like a good day to do that. Also, I miss my sister and her kids. Maybe we'll get a pic taken of all of us for the blog.

Until next time,

"I'm five...I'm fine."

"Amy, why are you counting?" - Doctor
"No, I'm not." - Amy
"You just said, five." - Doctor
"No, I didn't." - Amy
"Yes, you did." - River

The winner of our last giveaway is (cue drum roll or current Dr. Who theme) Pixelated Mushroom. To the victor goes the spoils. Spoils being that sheepishly cute sheep pen, delightful dragon stitch markers and small sampler of handspun yarn. Congratulations!

For our next giveaway, stay tuned. You won't want to miss it. I hope to have it ready by mid August.
In other news:
  • The injections to my shoulder are helping! Yay! I was able to spin for a half hour without pain. Hooray, hooray, hooray! Friday, they will take x-rays of my neck and we will determine whether it's back to work.
  • As far as knitting goes, I've finished the first sleeve of Isabella's sweater and turning the heel on Uncle Glen's first sock. My first bit of knitting for today is going to be the gauge swatch for the Lady Sunshine Cardigan.
  • Peter made me breakfast in bed. He makes an awesome Dutch Pancake with warm cinnamon apple sauce. Oh yeah, I am in heaven.
  • In the wee hours of the morning I figured out how to better mix my dyes. However, it requires more and larger storage containers. That issue has been fixed. Ace Hardware carries Ball 1/2 gallon Wide Mouthed canning jars. I now have 12 of these puppies.

Da Ouchie

About two weeks ago I did something to injure my left shoulder/arm. It's still in a lot of pain. Today I went to the doctor's office. She says that I've got bilateral tendinitis and will need to come back for steroid injections for both shoulders. This afternoon (30 minutes) Dr. A will be injecting. Now, I have had these injections before in my feet. OMG! I'd rather saw the toe off than have that ever injected again. Toes and feet are sensitive, which is why I'm hoping this will not hurt as badly. However, the nurse/office assistant said it hurts! Joy of joys.
For the next few weeks I will not be able to spin. ::cries:: In the mean time there will be lots of knitting and television.

The only really good thing to come of it is a break from the day job. They hold a policy that says if an off work injury requires restrictions the employee cannot come back to work. It may just be a "CYA" thing for the company. I'll be praying for some short term disability to come my way.

Any good movies you could suggest for my durning the day marathon?
