March Wellness Club

On March 24th, the Wellness Club met at Tea with Wheatley. The Wellness Club gets together once a month to discuss being well in all areas of lives. The group covers a wide variety of topics including the health benefits of different teas. Imagine tea, in a tea shop! This past month Dr. Laura came to present the role of supplements and their importance. Ron presented the background and benefits of drinking genmacha green tea, a pur-erh tea, and cherry tea.

I found the information from both presentation impressive and well worth the visit. Doctor Laura reminded us of a sobering fact, the food we eat at our tables are not as nutrient rich as they used to be. The two main reasons behind this are the soil lacks nutrients from overuse, and the time it takes for a store to receive a product after it is harvested diminishes the quality of nutrients. Supplements are there to help get all the nutrients your diet is lacking, but it is not a substitute for eating a well balanced diet.

Ron featured a tea that has become one of my favorites. It's the pu-erh tea. Pu-erh is a tea grown in caves. The smell is not as delicious as the taste. The body is smooth and the flavor a bold earthy one. The smell differes by variety. Some smell of fish or seaweed while other smell like "garage floor" as Ron put it. Once you get past the exotic perfume the taste is superb! This tea was on the Doctor Oz show. He talked about drinking pu-erh for weight loss. Here is the article on his website.

At this meeting I also bough an eight cup tea pot. It's a wonderful "little" guy. Between Peter and myself, we drink at least one of those pots a day. So, it's perfect for a girly tea party, too! Here are some pictures of the tea shop and my new pot!

This is my new beauty. Look it even tells us what it wants to eat!!!

I love this pot!

These are tiny little tea kettles! They are my favorite!

The next meeting for the Wellness Club will be announced on their facebook page.
