There has been a lot going on since last Friday.
This past Saturday I received a Blue Faced Leicester fleece from Magic Hill Farm in the mail.
It is a very clean fleece!
From what I've been told that it's very uncommon to have a nearly vm free fleece out of a BFL sheep.
Bailey will be the sheep for me!

So, I've been washing this fleece in lots to preserve the locks via the Yarnharlot way.
It has been taking forever.
While I'm at my mother's today the remainder will be washed in the machine via the Joy of Handspinning way.
The fleece can be picked from there.
Wading through all the dirt just grosses me out sometimes.

At the same time I began washing Diego's fluff.
His wool is combed as he sheds.
It is not smelly like most bucks.
Deigo's fiber is a Type B fleece, which is similar to a cashmere down.
After the Tour de Fleece is over with I hope to blend it with a wool on my Louet Junior Carder.
Then it can be spun into a very warm yarn.
I'm not sure which wool to blend it with yet.
Perhaps it would be a bit more lustrous mixed with some mohair?

Carissa of Bumblebee Acres and I made an awesome trade of fibers.
She needs top, and I want fleece.
In particular, I want English Angora and Cormo.
Both of us got what we wanted!
Now it's a matter of what am I supposed to do with this Angora and Cormo?
At the moment the Angora has been subject to heavy petting.
It's a beautiful broken lilac fleece of four ounces.

Thursday, Carissa made a stop over at my house to look at the BFL fleece from Magic Hill Farm.
It is my first fleece; therefore I need a little bit of a look over to be sure what is good.
She brought more Cormo to trade for top.
This time it was colored Cormo!
I'm in love with Cormo, too.
The crimp of a fleece is my favorite thing to look at.

While Carissa was over, I brought out a bag of silk cocoons.
The silk worm cocoons are a whole new experience for me.
The ones I bought still had the worms inside the cocoons.
To be completely honest, I was a bit apprehensive cutting into them.
She was my moral support as I cut into the cocoons.
It's not that bad.
The trouble is making a nice neat circle at the end when you cut.
There has to be an alternative.
Until then I am going to let the rest sit, and do some research.

Last night water poured through the air conditioning unit in our living room at 1:45 a.m.
It was a total mess.
Of all the things I can easily troubleshoot, this was and still is not one of them.
I'm very thankful to be awake at that time.
The water traveled down the cord toward the outlet of the on a/c unit.
The unit is also above the outlet we use for Peter's computer.
If I wasn't awake at that time, then we would have had a real piece of work on our hands.
Yikes!

My day job is prepping for "Back to School" time.
This is a great advantage for me!
First, all those composition notebooks are greatly discounted.
I can create fabric covered notebooks with little cost to me.
They are going to be great for the farmers market.
Second, I was able to purchase two English language quick notes laminated sheets.
This is a wonderful thing to have around when writing this blog.
As you can tell I have issues with punctuation at times.

Today, Peter and I went to the Woodstock Farmers Market before coming to Mom's house.
We picked up some great vegetables from Bumblebee Acres and Edmond's Acres.
Edmond's is our place to get Kohlrabi.
We've slowly been trying new vegetables throughout the summer.
I've come to love all different kinds of lettuces such as oak lettuce, kale, sorrel, and Swiss chard.
The market is always a lot of fun.

I apologize for the lack of pictures, and the long first person narrative.
However, it's a lovely little first person narrative, don't you agree?
Have a fantastic weekend!

RE: Collaboration (part 2)

Alrighty, ladies and gentlemen. It's finished the Pagosa Slouch is no longer a work in progress. This is the coolest hat pattern ever. If you love the color then you will have to stop into the shop in the near future. ArtemisArtemis has sent along 12 ounces of this colorway for me to spin up.

Recently, I had a custom order from Cloudlover made up. It busted it's way into my car this afternoon! Literally, it busted. I cannot believe how much fiber she managed to put into a single bag. :D It was truly a sight to behold. What a great way to end a crazy slow work day then a bag exploding of fiber! Not just any fiber, but Cloudlover colorway fiber! It was an amazing feeling.

The order was for
  •  8 ounces of Rambouillet in Passion Fruit
  •  8 ounces of Polwarth in Madeline
  •  4 ounces of Merino/Tencel in Copacobana
  •  4 ounces of Rambouillet in R'hyel
all of which did not include our double dose of fiber club and a second order of Meadow in SW Merino. That all was packaged into a tiny bag (2 lbs 10 oz). So when I say busting loose, I mean busting loose. It felt like a can of the joke peanuts came pouring out and it was fantastic!

Work got a little goofy towards the end of the day, however. They caught someone stealing hot dog buns and hot dogs. Apparently LP and this woman got into a fight over it. That's when about 5 police officers entered the building in a rush to find LP. First of all, no one told me that this was going on. The officers looked to me as if I knew what was going on. Yeah, I wasn't any help and I felt so confussed. It wasn't until later after talking to a couple of co-workers I knew what was going on. That was like the 7 to 10 US Marshals doing the county wide old warrant walk through and ended up at my house due to an error of address. It's never a dull moment. When it is a little dull life makes up for it in big ways.

Now that I'm home it's time to get spinning. This weekend will be my very first craft fair. It's local and in a great location for all sorts of traveling summer traffic. The biggest chore is deciding what to take with, tagging them with new tags and deciding how to set it all up. On top of that is the banner/poster board design. Thankfully work was slow and most of the design work is done. Crooks and Ewes.
Come out and join me. All the information is available on my Ravelry group.

On to the inventory building!

Sleeping In

Hooray for sleep! Three cheers for sleeping in until 1 pm. What no cheers? For the past couple of weeks sleep has been a precious comodity around my apartment. Our neighbor's one year old is still not sleeping through the night. People tell me every child is different. My niece slept through the night by about 7 or 8 months old and so did I. My sister took a little bit longer, but not by much. Peter slept throught the night around the same time as we did. Stephanie even slept through the night before one year. So it's rather aggravating. More so aggravating because other people's children should not be keeping me up at night. Due to that Photos Firday has been canceled. Our living room has been converted into our second bedroom and is in need of some serious cleaning. Right now we need to vacuum and organize. :)

We're also getting ready for a second and even larger Beltane celebration. Children are not allowed so I can be as tipsy or bubbly as can be. It's been a while and I love mead. It'll have to wait until after the spinning demonstration. We are also selling some handspun yarn and handpainted roving there.

Today I purchased some unfinished top whorl drop spindles. Within the next month or so I am going to start offering drop spindle kits. It'll be a spindle and 6 oz of fiber broken up into 3-2 ounce bundles. It'll be a sampler of the different wools I carry. The kit will also give a set of instructions and a link to a great group of instructional videos. They'll probably be left unfinished so that everyone can customize their own drop spindle, but Peter might take a couple and decorate and stain them.

In a few weeks I am going to be working out some business credit lines. This way I can purchase more wool, dyes and other supplies. The biggest thing to come out of this whole venture is the umbrella for all of my little etsy shops, etc. It is LMS Studios. LylianMae Fiber Artistry will be a division of the LMS Studios (Soon to be LLC). Then if I decide to sell ceramics, art, jewelry, etc. later on that can be another division of LMS Studios. Everything covered under LMS Studios will be anything studio art. For instance, I have mugs that were purchased at the Dollar Tree and decorated with Porcelane markers. That would fall under a new branch of the umbrella. Eventually it will happen, but not certain when. Single drop spindles will be another branch.

Congratulations to mamatwitch! She won the raffle for a Bee Bar from Honey House. The poll closed and Lavender is the herb of choice for the new Reiki distance healing dolls. :) There will be a new poll up later this week.
